last week i fell down an internet rabbit hole (ok ok i jumped) and encountered the work of painter Jiab Prachakul. i felt so astounded by the emotion and grace of the images. the paintings felt like they emanated a sincerity and depth that i imagine can only come from generous, sustained regard.
i loved this one so much i made it my computer background, it’s called ‘A Conversation with Apichatpong’ (2020):

this one is called ‘Fantastic Night’, is a portrait of the artist and two friends, and was part of an exhibition called Rendezvous in Time.

as i researched a bit more, i learned that most of the paintings are of people who the artist knows and loves. i feel the closeness, i feel the willingness to be with the emotions of the people she is witnessing and to bring them into the frame. the expressions, the colors, the shadows. it’s like that sometimes, isn’t it.
i made this zine to give to people at the comedy show last friday - here is a digital version: seeking exhale volume ii if you’d like a hard copy - email skallison.27@gmail.com and i’ll send you one in the mail!
